You may have noticed that my reviews are always fairly diplomatic and if you want to read a scathing attack on a novel, you are unlikely to find it on this site. In my opinion, anyone who painstakingly writes a novel deserves respect and even if I don’t enjoy a book, I will always look for redeeming qualities. I’m not the literature police and I can only offer my opinion as someone who has read lots, and I mean lots! Of course, I have the skills afforded to me from BA (Hons) English studies but I’m no more qualified than any other reader to completely trash a book. Even in the (very) little experience that I have of writing a novel, I understand to an extent the blood, sweat and tears that go into it and I’m sure that this is increased ten-fold when you get to the stage of actually publishing a novel. So I will never give a totally negative review.
However, I am more than happy to give my thoughts on a novel, offering my opinions on what I liked and what I didn’t. I hope to always give a balanced review of redeeming features and areas where I perhaps felt let down. That is the kind of review that you will get on this site.
At the end of each month, I will consider the books that I’ve read and will choose my ‘Book of the Month’. This book will be show on the welcome page for the entirety of the following month.
How will I rate the books that I’ve read? Rather than the usual stars, I thought I’d give my ratings a more literary feel, so Segnalibro.co.uk will rate books by Golden Books, as below. These ratings will show on the Recent Reads page.
